This is not a search engine but instead a page that lists the contents
of back issues dating back to the mid-90's. Of course, you can search
the page using the Find feature in your web browser.

Popular Woodworking’s Online Magazine Index
Search a description of every article published since 1997. You can
search this data base by keyword, by issue date or by author. Search
results include an abstract of the specific article matching your search
as well as abstracts of other articles in the same issue.
Woodsmith
A basic search box to locate back issues. The results are nicely laid
out: a blow-up of the feature project followed by thumbnails and brief
descriptions of the other projects in the issue.
Woodworker's Journal
Their search tool enables searching for back issues and plans (Use the
"Search Plans" link). Results include a photo and descriptive paragraph.
