Cutting Solid Stock
Tips Index
- Machine all stock at one time rather than piecemeal fashion.
- Group together pieces that require similar cuts.
- Make extra pieces for test cuts and error allowance.
- Use stop blocks to maximize accuracy and save time.
- Use jigs to speed up the cutting of identical parts.
- Cut all parts of similar design using the same saw setup.
- Use a ripping sled to facilitate the ripping of crooked boards.
- Rough cut boards slightly oversize (perhaps 1" in length and 1/4" in
width).
- Use a bandsaw to resaw boards (safer and less waste).
- Sneak up on critical cuts to avoid costly mistakes.
- Cut tenons slightly short to allow space for glue squeeze-out.
- Measure twice, cut once !
